Trust at Work

Episode description

In the final episode of Season 4, Quietly Secure brings together many of the themes we’ve explored throughout the season and asks what happens when technology, trust and human behaviour meet in the workplace.

We look at phishing and why attacks at work don’t always look suspicious. A message may appear to come from a manager, IT department, supplier or even the CEO, using familiar language and making a perfectly ordinary request. Artificial intelligence is making these messages increasingly convincing, removing many of the warning signs we’ve traditionally relied upon.

But the risk doesn’t always come from outside the organisation. Insider threats can be deliberate, but they can also simply be mistakes — sending the wrong attachment, sharing information with the wrong person, clicking a link or misunderstanding what should happen.

That leads to one of the most important ideas in this episode: good security shouldn’t be about fear or suspicion. It should give people the confidence to pause, question, check and admit when something has gone wrong.

We reflect on the season’s themes — scams, deepfakes, AI, information, reputation, scepticism and identity — and return to the idea that people have always been at the centre of security.

You don’t need to know everything. You just need to know when to stop, question, check and ask for help.

Sometimes the most powerful security tool is simply a few seconds of human thought.
